Timeframe M1 · unit ratio
The high-minus-low range of the most recent bar divided by the 14-bar ATR. Compares the current bar's actual range to the recent average range.
A ratio of 1.0 means the current bar has a range exactly equal to the recent average. Above 2.0 is an unusually wide bar (impulse, news spike). Below 0.3 is an unusually narrow bar (inside bar, consolidation doji). No directional content - a wide bar can be up or down.
If ATR is the 'normal' bar size, this ratio tells you whether today's bar is normal (1.0), a monster (>2), or a midget (<0.3). It's a single-bar exceptional-or-not detector.
Janira computes Range / ATR Ratio deterministically from live price action, the same way for every reading - no discretion, no hidden weighting. This page explains the method; it is not a live reading and not advice.
